Now I must pray for "revenge of the ninja" to make it to your site!MarkusWelby1https://www.blogger.com/profile/12516702877086692298noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3461143163123797513.post-84951715945533786352011-01-14T07:00:18.034-05:002011-01-14T07:00:18.034-05:00Thanks Emily, hope you enjoy it! Any of Kosugi's ninja films are a fine place to start for 1980s martial arts.Karl Brezdinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14504898646276737567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3461143163123797513.post-53475017236734861352011-01-12T16:19:19.832-05:002011-01-12T16:19:19.832-05:00Sounds like something I should casually add to my ...Sounds like something I should casually add to my list. I've been trying to beef up my martial arts movie knowledge, and this one seems fun. You gotta love the sleaze of Limehouse Willy's tactics in that back-end though. Who uses a sickle?!

DtVC - Kosugi definitely gets handed the shit sandwich in this one, which makes it all the more satisfying to see him tear a path of vengeance through the crime syndicate. Say what you will about his almost comedic lack of mastery of the English language, but Kosugi knows how to bring the intensity and emotion when the script calls for it.

Ty - Completely forgot to mention the song! I liked that Hessler also used it during that choice sword-making scene. Almost every good action movie needs a good and lyrically relevant pop song to pair with its montages and PfD definitely has it.Karl Brezdinhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14504898646276737567noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3461143163123797513.post-39495111621949588832011-01-10T23:18:58.464-05:002011-01-10T23:18:58.464-05:00Great Review, Awesome Movie! Plus Sho was at his best and the song at beginning of the movie: Back to The Shadows is fun and catchy.Tyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06188012325610596179noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3461143163123797513.post-52752041438362179892011-01-09T12:29:00.421-05:002011-01-09T12:29:00.421-05:00I loved the action in this, plus Sho Kosugi really...I loved the action in this, plus Sho Kosugi really brought it. It got a little tedious though with the way they were pouring it on him. First his son is kidnapped, then his son and wife are hit by a car, then the wife is killed in her hospital bed, then... it would have been better had they played up that angle you just discussed, about him running from who he is. Still, the action was great, and in the end, that's what counts.Direct to Video Connoisseurhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/02310858965138247572noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3461143163123797513.post-9800690006014985932011-01-09T11:49:27.732-05:002011-01-09T11:49:27.732-05:00While Revenge of the Ninja is my favorite Kosugi f...While Revenge of the Ninja is my favorite Kosugi film, Pray for Death comes pretty close. I think that has to do with how the action is handled, which is simply insane in Revenge, but still great in Pray.

The end battle is certainly questionable, and when last I watched the film, my excuse was that Limehouse Willy was a street kid that grew up tough and could very well handle himself. Still, a dude that can throw down is a big difference from a trained assassin!

Greta review, and great pick...you can never have enough Ninja in your life!Matt-suzakahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/16215962688591291944noreply@blogger.com
